Week 10 is in the books and we went a very respectable 10-5 for the week, but the it was an interesting journey getting there! I'm guessing Vegas had it handed it to them this week...just like my fantasy teams. That's right, not only do I have Cedric Benson and Ronnie Brown on my teams (one in each league), but, I went up against Chris Johnson and Randy Moss in both my leagues last week...I know, this is a pick-em spot, but, I just had to vent. Guess I will be spending the playoffs at home, just like the Bears.
Chicago (+3) @ San Francisco: Speaking of the Bears...I liked the Bears getting points...I also would have picked the under if you gave me a Cutler Interception line of 4. There were some really, really bad passes thrown by Cutler. Two of Cutler's interceptions looked like he thought "he plays defense, if I throw it really hard at his hands there's no way he'll catch it." I take solace in the fact that if you take away any one of those interceptions, I probably hit this pick, but, alas, it's a 0-1 start to the week for me.
Atlanta (-2) @ Carolina: Well, look who finally wants to play some football! The Panthers decided to give the NFC South an eight week head start. Something tells me they aren't going to catch the Saints, but the rest of the wild card contenders had better watch out. 0-2 for the week.
Saints (-14) @ Rams: Who takes the Rams here? C'mon! The Saints just didn't show up here. Can you imagine if the Rams completed that hail mary and beat the Saints. That's why we love the NFL though, isn't it? Yeah, whatever, 0-3 for the week.
Denver (-4) @ Washington: This was everyone's upset special...but, if everyone is going that way, is it really an upset? More deep thoughts later. I thought I was looking pretty good on this pick when Kyle Orton and Brandon Marshall were demolishing the Redskins defense. Orton only played about one half and put up very good numbers, too bad he and his Broncos couldn't finish the game. Somewhat of microcosm of their season, don't ya think? I told you I'd have more deep thoughts! Anyways, I am the anti-broncos this week, starting off 0-4 and about to heat up!
Bucs (+10) @ Dolphins: The Bucs almost pulled off back-to-back upsets here. And honestly, the Bucs had this game won. I couldnt believe the Dolphins pulled this one out. I am still not sure whether the Bucs played well or the Dolphins played bad, either way, our first win of the week is a sweet one! 1-4.
Detroit @ Minnesota (-16.5): This seemed like a lot of points to give, but, it was just right! Actually, it the Vikings should have never allowed the Lions Touchdown. If you didn't see it, the Vikings were robbed of a sack and fumble the play before the Lions touchdown on a bogus roughing the passer call (I have the Vikings D in all leagues, can you tell?). Anyways, 17 points was the perfect number, well done Vegas. 2-4 for the week.
Jags @ Jets (-7): A very, very disappointing performance for the Jets coming off a bye. Sure the Jaguars are playing better each week, but, this was a game the Jets needed, and should have had. You have to love MJD apologizing to his fantasy owners after the game and admitting he started himself in his fantasy league. I hope it didn't cost him the win. 2-5 for the week.
Bengals (-7) @ Steelers: How bout them Bengals. They lose Benson and still are able to outscore the Steelers. I am not sure what Bruce Arians was doing in this game. I get it, you're trying to be a passing team. That doesn't mean you should abandon the run completely. All in all 7 was way too big a number for what promised to be a close game. 3-5 for the week and not looking back!
Bills @ Titans (-7): I am so torn. I can't tell if I should be excited about the firing of Dick Jauron or not. I know the Bills will end up with a not-exciting head coach in the end. No Cowher, No Shanahan, No Holmgren, not even a Billick or a Schottenheimer. I'm guessing Haslett. Anyways, the Bills hung with the previously 2-6 Titans for most of the game, but, as is the Bills M.O., they imploded in the 4th quarter. This may mark the end of the Trent Edwards era in Buffalo. At least I never sprung for his jersey. 4-5 for the week.
Chiefs (+2) @ Raiders: Remember that rule we created several weeks ago: if any of these two teams are favored, you take the other team. It worked again! 5-5 for the week.
Cowboys @ Packers (+3): "This has classic Cowboy let down written all over it doesn't it?" Why, yes Zach it does, you're so smart! I am not ready to make it a rule, but, the Packers getting points at home is a pretty smart bet. 6-5 for the week.
Eagles @ Chargers (-2): The Eagles are a tough team to read this year, but, a banged up Defense on the road against a very talented offense...ok, so, maybe they are an easy team to read. Don't look now, but LT can still play a little football. The Chargers are the Phillies, the Broncos are the Mets (even have similar colors)...watch out Denver, next stop is signing Mo Vaughn. 7-5 for the week.
Seahawks @ Cardinals (-9): The Cards have their offense rolling again and that Defense is much better than last year. Look out NFC, this is a team that wins on the road and can put up enough points to keep up with the Saints and Vikings. Should be interesting. 8-5 for the week.
Patriots (+3) @ Colts: This game never disappoints, does it? I am sure you're tired of hearing about it, but, I will put my two cents into the now infamous "fourth down call." I like the call. Was it the right call? No, the smart play is to punt it. But, I wanted the Colts to win the game and guess what, after the third down play I was thinking "Awesome, Peyton Manning, 2 minute drill, here we go." When they lined up to go for it on 4th down, I was thinking:"I can't believe it, Peyton's not even going to get a shot." People always second guess coaches and say "he played not to lose rather than to win that game." (i.e. the Giants against the Chargers). Well, the Patriots played to win the game and were a bobble away from the win. I am fine with the call and I couldn't be happier with the result. 9-5 for the week.
Ravens (-11) @ Browns: At least Sunday Night Football was good. The Browns are terrible, and the Ravens almost let them off the hook. This was painful to watch. Sure, not as painful as jumping on a bicycle with the seat missing...but, it was painful. There's nothing painful about going 10-5 for the week. 78-64-1 for the season. Take that Vegas! Another short week, so I will be back before you know it with my Week 11 picks.
