The time is now to add Brandon Morrow if he's somehow still available.
He was a starter, but then was sent to the pen.... and, like all rookies nowadays, had to wear the Hello Kitty bag and lead the boys to the bullpen.
Morrow posted a 1.47 ERA with 10 saves and a 0.90 WHIP over 37 innings in relief this year for Seattle.
In fact, he was so dominant that the Mariners decided he would be best suited as a starting pitcher.
They sent him to AAA to stretch himself out.
A sample of his ability was displayed in one of his AAA starts where he struck out 10 batters in less than five innings.
The former first-round pick from 2006 will make his first start next week against the Yankees. Seattle hasn't announced when exactly he'll start, but they have decided he will start one of the three games in that series.
At this point in the season, it's difficult to find potential gems like Morrow. Many teams who are out of contention will merely sample their starting pitchers to see if they are options for spring training battles.
Teams that are in contention are likely to have already brought up someone who they think could help them out (Max Scherzer would have been up if healthy).
What Seattle is doing with Brandon Morrow is unique because they have stretched him out and want to know how he will do as a starting pitcher. Despite pitching for one of the worst teams in baseball, he isn't likely to be shut down.
